無論在哪個國家，Iron Maiden這個偉大的名字在重金屬樂迷當中都是家喻戶曉的。在過去的20多年當中，Iron Maiden始終都是最杰出的金屬樂隊之一，同時，無數(shù)的后輩樂隊在成長的過程中也都受到了Iron Maiden音樂的影響。此外，Iron Maiden還是最早被稱為“British metal”的樂隊之一。與黑色安息日（Black Sabbath），齊柏林飛艇（Led Zeppelin）和猶大圣徒（Judas Priest）一樣，Iron Maiden也是英國重金屬音樂歷史上最具代表性的樂隊之一。

1976年，Iron Maiden最初由貝斯手史蒂夫·哈里斯（Steve Harris）組建，而當時樂隊的其他成員為吉他手Tony Parsons，鼓手Doug Sampson和主唱Paul Di'Anno。在與唱片公司正式簽約之前，Iron Maiden一直都在倫敦當?shù)夭煌５难莩觯瑯逢牭母枨诋數(shù)氐碾娕_中非常受歡迎。1981年，Iron Maiden的第二張專輯《Killers》面世，曲風更加硬朗。在這張專輯中，阿德里安·史密斯（Adrian Smith）代替了Dennis Stratton，出任Iron Maiden的新吉他手。而由于嚴重的酗酒，主唱Paul Di'Anno也在《Killers》專輯面世之后被迫離開了樂隊。
